Kubernetes (k8s)

Kubernetes is a containerization system that allows your company to deploy, manage, and scale your applications anywhere on any infrastructure that you see fit for your businesses needs.

Kubernetes is an open source system for managing containerized workloads in a declarative way. It was open sourced by Google in 2014 taking what they learned over the years managing complex workloads and making it available to the world. Since that time it has grown to have over several thousand contributors world wide.

With k8s your team can:

  • Implement infrastructure as code
  • Create structure and repeatability with your infrastructural processes
  • Increase opporational efficiency for your microservices
  • Deploy to multi-cloud environments with ease
  • Reduce vendor lockin and increase leverage with your hosting providers
  • Scale your team with infrastructure automation instead of people
  • Create stability and increase performance as you scale
  • Prevent deplatforming
  • Own your destiny by preventing your hosting provider from constraining your businesses overall opportunity

With k8s you can use pre-built packages to run common open source software. Building packages for custom built applications is also easy with many resources available to simplify it. The real power comes when extending Kubernetes using what are known as operators. You can leverage operators to manage Kubernetes clusters, highly available database workloads, software defined networks, automated monitoring and alerting and more.
